Dre's Top 25 Games: The NOT top 10 Entry 3

Now that we have 3 of these posts up, here is an ongoing recap

-Day 1: Metroid: Other M
-Day 2: Batman: Arkham Asylum

and now for today's entry

inFAMOUS
-Playstation 3, May 26, 2009

A relatively original (as much as you can be nowadays) superhero game that took the sandbox formula that has been overused since last gen and made a framework that combined clever use of superpowers along with parkour platforming to thread together a journey of devastation or redemption depending on the usually obvious choices you are given throughout the game.

Storyline it was above average, some of the plot points were obvious but the grand twist at the end was completely unexpected, even for a veteran of hackneyed comic book plots like me.

The overall gameplay was what really pulled me in. Each new ability was integrated seamlessly as you progressed throughout the game and really gave you the feeling that you were learning how to be a superhero. The combat is usually overwhelming, which is appropriate in a game where you wield thunder and lightning. You SHOULD face a ridiculous amount of heavily armed thugs when you are able to toss lightning grenades and summon thunder from the sky.

The one aspect of the game I loved was the fact that you could essentially climb anywhere (except chain link fences for some odd reason, which they fixed in the sequel). 20-story building? No problem! Need to get roof to roof? Easy! Traveling across the city was as easy as finding the nearest power line or elevated train to grind.

Overall it was a great title that brought me a lot of fun action and a surprising story.

Tomorrow's entry is the last from 2009, and it a pretty long one. A bit of a story behind tomorrows game.
